A few weeks ago, I posted about coming off social media for a bit. I was feeling pretty run down by it all. Actually, I was annoyed, frustrated, and overwhelmed.
So I took myself offline for a bit. I had no idea what was going to happen. But I knew I needed a break.
Then Universe intervened by throwing me three messages in rapid succession.
Firstly, my intuition was telling me that I was using social media all wrong.
But the how, what, and why of changing that was utterly unknown to me.
Then, I woke up the next morning thinking about Gary Vaynerchuck, who I follow on Instagram, saying that you HAVE to be on social media today. And I knew I needed to listen to him.
He was my how and what of social media influencing.
But the last one hit me right in the heart. It was the why…
I told a friend that I’d taken down my business social media, feeling all clever and defiant about it, and she said: Please don’t do that your Facebook posts are the only thing keeping me going.
It’s not about me. It’s about my followers.
It’s about the people I have been influencing and the good that can still be done.
It’s not about all the sideline crap that I’d been caught up in. (You can read about that crap here.)
So what do you do?
You follow the guidance of the Universe. You give yourself a few weeks off. Then turn it all back on. And you even increase your social media presence.
But something else happened too in this process. I got sent back to the basics of universal support.
Back in the early days of my business, whenever I was frustrated and overwhelmed and wanted to throw it all in, the Universe would intervene.
I’d be on the verge of my sanity, wondering what the point of trying to run this business even was?! And I’d get an email from someone telling me how much I’d helped them.
Every time I got close to the edge, the Universe sent me a sign that it was, in fact, all worth it.
I took a leap of faith when I shut down my social media. It didn’t feel right anymore. I couldn’t hear my intuition around it. It was all just a big blur.
And as a result, I got a timely reminder that overwhelm is going to be there if I’m not focussed on what matters… influencing people in positive ways.
So, over the past four weeks, the Universe has continued to send me signs, tools, and ideas.
…Use Instagram differently to other platforms.
…Get back on Twitter.
…Get your YouTube channel cleaned up and organized.
…Increase your newsletter subscribers with new offers on Facebook.
And so it will be done!
And the messages will continue to be changed up.
And the ideas will keep flowing.
And inspiration will be shared!

Lastly, I want to say that my feelings about social media haven’t changed all that much. There are a LOT of issues that exist with the way some platforms are run…
