If you’re like me, when you started your business you were full of enthusiasm, creativity, and the motivation to deal with every challenge that came your way.
Then shit starts to happen. Nothing goes to plan. The bank account is empty. You’re working overtime to try to make something stick.
Those tiny successes that do come are just enough to keep you going, but not enough to make you feel particularly grateful for this entrepreneurial journey.
Maybe you should go back and get a day job, is the overriding thought.
All those coaches on Facebook telling you that you can make a shitload of money real fast with your online business aside, I’d just like to highlight that everything I’ve described above is NORMAL!
But, if you’re like me, you probably don’t want to be normal either, right? You want to be that small percentage that DOESN’T give up when things get tough…
You want your beautifully wild, soulful vision to stick. You want to make it your living.
That means the only option here is to learn to think DIFFERENTLY.
You can’t rely on the old routine thinking that got you through your day job. You have to reboot, get back to that place you were in the beginning – but now with a whole lotta new insight about yourself and your business, and therefore WISDOM to take it all to the next level… which won’t be the final level, by the way! You’ll probably go through this whole routine numerous times before you feel less ‘challenged’ by it all 😉
That said, here are the first three steps you can take to get back on track…
1. Realize You’re In Control
One of the things that affect the way you approach anything in life, and especially your business, is the belief that you’re in control.
If you’re feeling controlled by your business or by your customers, then it’s time to stop, rethink. You’re the damn owner… you get to make any changes you want. That means you can even sell or close your business if you want to. But, then again, you can figure out how to restructure things too.
Take a deep breath, and say aloud, “I’m in control of this business.” Now, close your eyes and let your inner wisdom show you what the next step is. Whatever idea, thought, image, feeling comes to mind embrace it.
2. What Sucks About Your Day?
Next, ask yourself what is it about your business you find draining? What do you procrastinate on, complain about, and not look forward to?
If you’re a coach and you find that following up and scheduling appointments is the worst thing ever then write that down. If you’re an information marketer and you hate formatting your products and adding graphics then write that down.
Anything that stinks about your business, write it down – even if it’s a big deal. For example, if you’re an affiliate marketer and you dislike creating content then write that down.
3. What Are You Gonna Do About It?!
Now is not the time to tell yourself you just have to live with it. If you’re going to stay stuck in that thinking, you may as well go back and get a paying job.
You’re an entrepreneurial spirit, which means you’re a creative problem solver. You’ve got this incredible intuition to turn to, not to mention all that wisdom generated through all the challenges you’ve had to face.
You can and will find a solution to this challenge too.
Start to brainstorm the possibilities. For example, if you’re the affiliate marketer who feels completely disillusioned by your niche and can’t find anything to write about there are solutions to this problem. You could hire a writer. Or, if that’s not affordable, use PLR material. You could start a new affiliate business, one that you are interested in…
If you get stuck on the brainstorming, start talking with other entrepreneurs in and outside of your niche. Or, Google it. Someone else has faced this very same problem, and they’ve written about it.
Re-engage and start interacting with the world around you. You may find a new sense of passion, a new business idea, or a new way to approach your business. Remember, you’re the boss. It’s up to you!
