One of the things that I constantly see in the field of success is kinda dire, emotionally and spiritually speaking… It’s the idea that success will just happen. And when it doesn’t people give up.
There seems to be this ever-present illusion that people are either successful or they’re not.
And when success doesn’t happen as people think it should they assume they’ll NEVER be that person.
And with that expectation, there’s no point in even trying. It’s a natural progression to just give up.
I’m really aware that the only reason I really got to keep moving was that I learned to listen to the Teachers, instead of that narcissistic little inner voice that said ‘it hasn’t happened yet, so you’re not worthy’!
Trust me…. I’ve had SO MANY tantrums and fits of ‘why bother?’ and ‘I’ve had enough of this shit!’ along the way. I’ve had people tell me to give up. I’ve left old friends behind because they judged instead of supported. I’ve been right at the very end of my financial tether (numerous times).
My business shouldn’t be viable, according to some people. Yet it’s been running and paying the bills and taking me on holidays and allowing me a huge amount of freedom over my choices, time and energy for over 10 years.
And that has occurred for one simple reason: I chose not to give up.
Which means… I go after solutions every single time I hit a challenge.
The only reason successful people become successful is not that it just works out, but because they don’t give up.
And I can guarantee that they had some kind of guidance – a mentor, a clear intuition, a support person of some kind who just believed in their idea and spoke sense to them when things got tough.
So if I can be that person for you today then I’ll be satisfied that I’m headed in the right direction for my own life!
Here are 3 fundamental ideas you need to implement to stay on track when your mind is telling you to just give up…
These are the ideas that I’ve implemented through the Teachers training over the years. These steps support the case for inner-evolution and growth in just about every situation you’ll face. Because whilst we all have different inner barriers and fears, there are common denominators of success that we can align with…
1: Just go for a walk.
Seriously, if you are ready to just throw it all in and you’re about to trash the book you started, or take down your website, or quit whatever you’re working on… just move, walk, dance, go to the gym.
DO NOT action anything that will ruin things you’ve already set up, in the heat of the moment.
Maybe there are very good reasons to give up on something you thought would work. Maybe you just need to restrategize.
And you won’t know the difference until you’ve gotten out of your head and into your soul space, or your intuition, or someone talks a bit of sense to you.
Maybe this challenge presents a very particular turning point that you need to take, and if you throw it in at this moment, you’ll completely miss the mark in terms of future fulfillment.
Because there are moments in all our lives that we are being called to step up. And not doing that influences our future. Maybe there’s another chance around the corner. Maybe there’s not. Who knows…
I do know that life is created right here, right now, through the actions we’re taking. And if the simplest thing you can do to reclaim some clarity is go for a walk, then why wouldn’t you?
2: Suck it up a bit.
Harsh? Or life-changing?!
The most fundamentally life-changing moment I’ve had is this:
Catching sight of the look on my face in a mirror, whilst I was whining to myself about how tough it was without any real money flow. I’d been complaining about this for far too long. And I just wasn’t getting over it. Then, when I saw the ridiculous, whiny look on my face my inner voice said very loudly… for fuck’s sake will you give it a rest!
It’s called self-awareness. And it’s the key to success.
I really did need to just fucking give it a rest on the whining and get down to the task of building my business, no matter how hard it was.
And I did. And it’s been messy and amazing and financially up and down ever since… That’s. Just. Life!
3: Create an action plan. Then be flexible with it. Maybe even just throw it away.
I LOVE to plan. I find it very cathartic. If there is a complicated list of things that need to be done, then I can have it all mapped out for you, no problem. So I do this a lot with my business. And it makes me feel all proactive and in-charge… Then the Teachers step in and tell me to do something else…
I mean we’re meant to have a business plan, a life plan, a series of goals that we will reach within a certain period of time, right?!
Or are we?
I’ve learned that we need to plan ON success, rather than have some strategy that we’ve made up based on what we think we ‘should’ do (usually because it’s what other people are doing)!
Going back to point 1, if we have an idea about what’s “meant” to happen and it doesn’t happen, we tend to want to just give up. Life isn’t meeting our expectations. That results in feelings of loss and lack and depression for many people. We have rigid expectations that result in rigid feelings and a rigid self-image that isn’t even, usually, very reasonable let alone loving or kind.
So, what if we just rethought the strategy we’re relying on to meet success?
YES… You have to know what you want.
But you really have no idea HOW it’s going to play out. Planning isn’t a particularly reasonable thing to do.
Sure, there are things that need to happen in sequence to get to an end result. And you need to know what they are.
Planning doesn’t actually create success though. Success is created in your mind. Because success in action looks like the image below… meaning the only thing you can do to stay on track is to stay in command of your responses to the shit that’s gonna happen!
If you want to experience that BEAUTIFUL feeling of fulfillment, then you’ve got to be WILD enough to take part in the extreme sport that building a business or stepping out of your comfort zone or embarking on a major adventure REALLY IS…
So, what you actually need to do is FOCUS.
Focus on what you want every day. There are a million different ideas when it comes to this. Mantras, affirmations, vision boards, manifesting rituals that require you to write down what you want 55 times a day for 5 days…
They ALL do the exact same thing!
They get you to consciously connect with, visualize, or state what you want… so that you impress a certain image or message on your subconscious mind repeatedly… so that your actions then follow… so you reach the result that you want.
Your subconscious mind doesn’t argue with what you tell it. It simply begins to create.
So whether you’re focused on what you want, or you’re constantly focussed on how bad everything is, your subconscious just says ‘OK! Here it is!’
That’s how you plan ON success.
Your subconscious mind will present you with opportunities, and show you the way intuitively, and it’s up to you to take part in that…
